This is a story happened on an American soldier, happened between two cultures, happened on the frontier, but what it tells is not as big as its background shows.
In the end of the story Lieutenant Dunbar was considered as an enemy by those American soldiers, they beat at him, laughed at him, insulted him, and bound him; he was saved by his Indian friends at last. Why those white people looked so ugly? Then what is culture? It reminds me of another movie I watched not long ago, Apocalypto, which is also a story happened before culture. In Apocalypto, fear is accentuated repeatedly, is that the symptom of culture? Is the listless the symptom of culture? Are inhuman actions the symptom of culture? What is culture? We’re always asking ourselves, we are always in an anxious state, anxious about what? We don’t know either. We are lack of trust, lack of happy, lack of goals. If there should be virtues on us, what’re they?
Kind? brave? … Which is on you? If you know it, magnify it. There must be several you-s in your body, they’re fighting with each other. Let the strong ones be more strong, let it win.
